Yes. SCLI helps students improve practical English skills including speaking, listening, reading, and writing, which are useful for English proficiency exams such as Eiken. Students are placed into classes based on their level, receive regular progress reports, and study in small, supportive classes designed to build confidence in real communication.

Independent travel (2 or more students) is also possible later in the year as students’ English improves. All travel is carefully planned with the help of families and staff. Accommodation and transport are pre-booked to ensure students are able to complete their travel in safety.

SCLI provides strong support and communication for parents throughout the study abroad experience. The school offers Japanese-language support, regular updates, academic reports, and communication between staff, host families, and parents in Japan. Parents can also join the annual Parents’ Tour to visit Christchurch, meet teachers and host families, and observe classes in person.
