The year I spent at SCLI is unforgettable. It is 10 years since I left there, but I don’t feel it has been so long. I feel it was only 2 or 3 years ago, because it was very enriching. The best aspects of the SCLI in my opinion are the teachers and curriculum. The teachers were always well prepared and energetic in class and also available to provide extra help not only with language questions but also with culture question or personal issues. This type of teacher-students relationship is absolutely essential for such intensive study. The curriculum was magnificent. There were not only language studies, but field trips, activities and parties are included. So students are able to learn live English through the curriculum. Now I’m teaching Japanese to foreign students at Nanzan University. Through my work, I think my experience at SCLI helps me when I attend to my students. Living in a foreign country is not always enjoyable but sometimes hard. I can know what my students think, want and need. I am sure that a year’s study at SCLI will be a valuable experience for any young person. 03/12/27 Rie Takenaka |

At school, I had no difficulty in getting on well with the teachers. My teacher, Greta taught us English until we understood. She was enthusiastic to make our English better. At home, I had a marvellous host family. When I left Christchurch, my host mother cried for me and then, I felt that I was one of the members of the family. Now, I’m studying hard to enter a university. Of course, I want to enter the Department of Britain and America to make my English better and better because English is a part of me now and also, a wonderful memory of my stay in New Zealand. I'll tell you about SCLI and I am sure if you read this you will like it so much! First of all SCLI doesn't look and feel like a school- it feels much more like a big family. The classes are just fun - but we study English. Can you imagine English classes being fun? In Japan we don't usually have time to give our opinions and ask questions during class but at SCLI we do. Next, it has fantastic mothers - I mean teachers. They know lots of things, not only English. Finally I can say that SCLI has a good influence on its students. There is a teacher at Hikarigaoka who graduated from SCLI and she is the best teacher I've ever met in Japan. She teaches her classes the same as SCLI and for the first time I think English is fun in Japan. Don't you think it is great? I didn't like English much before I went to New Zealand but studying at SCLI made me think how interesting English is. If I hadn't gone to SCLI, I wouldn't have ever enjoyed English. Miu Iyogi |

| I love SCLI Last year from April 2003 until March 2004 I went to New Zealand to study English at SCLI. I can say that SCLI is the best school I've ever gone to and, if I hadn't gone there I would not have had a successful year. There are lots of reasons why I had a great year. First, my host family that the SCLI staff chose for me was great. They are similar to me and my host sister's character was like mine. I still keep in touch with them and want to say thank you to the teachers for choosing them for me. Secondly, our teachers were wonderful. They always cared about every student and talked to us every day. They helped with our studies a lot so I could improve my English skills, especially listening and vocabulary. I also learnt other things , for example about New Zealand, how to study, the best ways to communicate with host families etc. Finally SCLI helped me grow up in all ways. Before I went to the school my English result was worse than any other subject and I had never got more than average scores. But now I can say that I am good at English and enjoy studying it. I had never thought 'I love school' before I went to SCLI. It will be my favourite school forever. Miwa Nagai |

| Wonderful SCLI If you want to study English overseas I really recommend you go to SCLI. The school will help you achieve what you want to and make you confident. I also studied so many things, not only English but about New Zealand lifestyle and so on. I enjoyed everything throughout the year. I had been interested in English before I went to New Zealand but SCLI made me more interested. After school you will have lots of free time so you you'll find new hobbies and good mates. I found good friends I had things in common with. They helped me keep up my English. The teachers are also great. When I had a question they helped me until I understood. After a year I realized how much I had learnt in New Zealand. It has helped me decide what I want in life. Chiemi Fukumori |

I spent one year with teachers and many friends at SCLI. I am sure that my ability in English has improved. I also had a memorable time at school. And every day the classes were interesting. I realised our teachers had planned valuable lessons and they taught me how to enjoy English and communicate with foreigners. This experience made me more confident in my English and in other ways as well. If you have some troubles and are worried about living abroad with other people, you don't have to. You'll have a fantastic time. The counselor and other staff will help you,. Ultimately, whether you enjoy the year or not, really depends on you. I want to say that I had a wonderful time and I'll never forget it. Nozomi Ishikawa |

At first I was worried about living in New Zealand, although I was looking forward to it. It was not so easy for me to get used to my host family. However they kindly looked after me and helped me with my English, which made my life there enjoyable. I realised the importance of my family and the kindness of New Zealanders. Now I think that studying English in a foreign country made my spirit grow. It has been the greatest treasure in my life. Chiaki Tokorozawa |

I’d like to tell you about SCLI but before I tell you I want you to know that as soon as you read my article you will surely want to go to this wonderful school. Are you ready to read? Now I am going to tell you how wonderful SCLI is. First of all, the teachers are absolutely great. All of them are professional English teachers. Their classes are always enthusiastic and lots of fun. Actually they are not only English teachers but they are also like our mothers. I mean they always care about us like real mothers. Secondly the school building is good. It’s not a normal school. It’s a big house. Therefore we are like a big family. The atmosphere of the school is always cheerful. That’s why we can relax even while we are at school. Well… you want to go abroad and study at SCLI, don’t you? I had an absolutely fabulous time at SCLI. Now it’s your turn. I promise you will have a fabulous time if you go to SCLI. Kaori Kutsuna |
